This medical device is intended to improve blood circulation of the lower limbs.
The goal is to support a patient’s leg comfortably, and articulate the ankle joint with a motorized foot pedal. It was designed to be used prone or seated.
Important design considerations were safety, durability, cost, size, and the ability to work with a wide variety of patients with little adjustment.
Innovative features include a lost-motion design in the pedal drive mechanism, preventing the possibility of pinching or entrapment, as well as an adjustable spring-based isolation mechanism which applies a gentle pressure to the foot, and will not over-articulate the joint as the internal drive moved through the back and forth cycle.
Working with a vascular surgeon and a partner ID firm, Creative was responsible for the mechanical design, proof of concept prototypes, engineering, and CAD.
