Our client, Change Parts, is a longtime manufacturer of custom parts for existing turret capper machines to accommodate the specific shapes and heights of the battles they needed to cap. With their deep knowledge of the industry, they saw a business opportunity in the market that required Creative’s mechanical expertise.

After a site visit to review the state of existing machines and consulting with the client, we observed that the biggest pain points with existing machines are:

• Switching to a different bottle height requires completely disassembling the machine to change the table height

• Switching to a different bottle diameter requires dissembling the capper components, purchasing a new mounting plate, and re-mounting them further apart or closer together

• Many machines have very little electronic control and require expert manual adjustment and calibration to work

The result of our design process was a remarkable system designed to reduce wasted time on complicated and expensive part changes and reduce capital investment needed for changing a bottle size by reducing the need additional custom parts for each bottle.

This was accomplished by designing a table that can be electronically raised and lowered without moving the capping mechanisms. That completely removed the need to disassemble the machine to adapt to a new bottle height, making it as simple as the push of a button.

The capping grippers are also fully adjustable and electronically controlled, allowing for a quick and easy change for different bottle diameters.

These new functions as well as all the standard turret capper functions (speed, grip strength, and more) were all redesigned to be fully electronically controlled. No more need for an expert to know every quirk of a specific machine, with Creative’s system, every adjustment can be done without mechanical knowledge from a simple interface, reducing personnel costs and freeing up high value employees for other pressing work.
