A pinhole camera, or camera obscura works by taking advantage of how light rays move through space and through small holes. Lumigraphe uses this same classic technology and brings it into the world of smartphones; you can use your iPhone to capture beautiful photos and videos with analog filtering effects such as color saturation effects, a soft focus, a narrow depth of field, and natural grain quality previously seen only on film.
Creative Engineering employed a detailed product development process to engineer the Lumigraphe smartphone attachment to produce camera obscura effects. We worked through industrial design first to make sure the device looked as good as the photos it took while maintaining a classic aesthetic. After that we worked through CAD and prototyping, eventually making and testing our own version of the product. We made sure that the device would work well with many smartphones and create exactly the effects our client was looking for.
